George Stephanopoulos: A Journey in Media
Early Life and Career
George Stephanopoulos was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on February 10, 1961, to Robert George Stephanopoulos and Nickolitsa "Nikki" Gloria Chafos. His father was a Greek Orthodox priest.
Stephanopoulos began his career in politics as an aide to Congressman Mike Synar in 1982. He later worked for Mario Cuomo, then governor of New York, and Bill Clinton, then governor of Arkansas.
ABC News and "Good Morning America"
In 1997, Stephanopoulos joined ABC News as an anchor on the weekend edition of "Good Morning America." In 2009, he became a co-anchor on the weekday edition of the show.
Stephanopoulos is also the host of ABC's Sunday morning political talk show, "This Week."
