MotoGP riders ready to race for the championship

Francesco Bagnaia on pole for the first race of the season

The 2023 MotoGP World Championship season is set to begin this weekend at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar. Reigning world champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) will start from pole position for the first race of the season, ahead of Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing MotoGP) and 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP).

Bagnaia had a dominant qualifying session, setting a lap time that was almost half a second faster than his nearest rival. Bastianini and Quartararo were both within striking distance of Bagnaia, but they were unable to match his pace. Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) rounded out the top five.

The 2023 MotoGP World Championship is set to be one of the most competitive in recent memory. A number of riders are in contention for the title, including Bagnaia, Bastianini, Quartararo, and Marquez. The season will also see the return of several riders who missed significant time due to injury in 2022, including Alex Rins (LCR Honda Castrol) and Cal Crutchlow (WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team).

The first race of the 2023 MotoGP World Championship season will take place on Sunday, March 5th, at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.
